Artist in Residence (The Monkey King, 2015)
Qi Shu Fang is a renowned Peking Opera star, hailed throughout Europe and Asia as the master of a traditional Chinese art form that is one of the most widely known theatrical traditions in the world. In the United States, she performed on Broadway in The Women Generals of the Yang Family at the New Victory Theatre. She created her own New York based Peking Opera Company that focuses on cultural outreach, bridging East to West, and performs in venues ranging from Lincoln Center to community spaces and schools. In 2001 she was awarded the National Heritage Fellowship, the highest honor in traditional folk arts.
