Technical Direction and Scenic Technology
Erin Freeman earned her MFA in Technical Direction & Production Management at Tulane University. As a native of New Orleans, she was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the New Orleans Opera Scenic Studio to continue the restoration of their scenic and properties stock while in residence. She received her BFA in Design, focusing in scenic design & technology, from Michigan State University. Erin has had the pleasure of working around the country with many companies as a freelance artisan and technician including Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Jean’s Playhouse, and the Ohio Light Opera.
Prior to joining the faculty at MSU, Erin was the Technical Director for the Performing Arts at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and taught courses at Tulane University. She is an active member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology in several commissions. Her current research interests include repetitive injury prevention for technicians (tentatively titled “The Care and Keeping of Carpenters”) and the fabrication of illusions for stage.
