The Michigan State University Department of Theatre begins its spring semester of performances with the musical comedy Head Over Heels, set to the music of the iconic 80s all-female rock band The Go-Go’s. Performance dates are February 18-20 and 22-27 in the Auditorium Building’s Fairchild Theatre. Attendees must be masked and show proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours, along with ID.
Adapted from the plot of The Countess of Pembroke’s Arcadia, a 16th-century prose romance by Sir Philip Sidney, this laugh-out-loud love story includes the hit songs, “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” and Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” and “Mad About You.” A hilarious, exuberant celebration of love follows the escapades of a royal family on an outrageous journey to save their beloved kingdom from extinction — only to discover the key to their realm’s survival lies within each of their own hearts.
Director Brad Willcuts says he hopes audiences will enjoy a night out at the theatre for a few hours of escape to a fantastical world. “Audiences will want to dance in the aisles and sing along. It’s a great show for young and old alike. We encourage everyone to escape their cares and worries and join us for an uplifting, hilarious night of musical theatre.”
