The Minor in Dance offers a unique opportunity for students to study dance and its practical applications. The minor consists of technique-based courses designed to provide a wide variety of skills in conjunction with practical leadership within the discipline. The Minor in Dance prepares students for careers that are directly related to dance while affording opportunities to expand creative, collaborative and interpersonal communication skills that will prove useful in many professional areas.

Program Requirements

The Dance Minor is open to any student enrolled at Michigan State University!  preference for admittance into the dance classes will be given to students who declare their Dance Minor officially.

To complete the minor, students must complete 16 credit hours of courses in Dance.  12 credit hours will be earned in a variety of Dance Technique classes.  These classes are offered in a variety of dance styles and need not be taken in any specific order.  Dance Technique I, II, III, and IV can be repeated as desired.  4 additional credit hours will be earned in a Choreography class and a Dance Practicum.  Please visit the Class Search in https://student.msu.edu for the current course offerings.

Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre Styles, Commercial, Jazz Funk, Social Dance (History and Contemporary Reflections) and more!

DAN 351 – Dance Technique I (2 credit hours)
DAN 352 – Dance Technique II (2 credit hours)

DAN 452 – Dance Technique IV (3 credit hours)

Required Dance Classes
DAN 300 – Dance Practicum (1 credit hour)
DAN 354 – Dance Choreography (3 credit hours)
