MSU College of Arts & Letters’ Department of Theatre presents...

Collage of an electric chair, broken bottle, pebbles, newspaper headlines, gears and a woman's face

Machinal

Written by Sophie Treadwell

Directed by Deric McNish

Synopsis

Based on the true events of Ruth Snyder, the first woman to be executed by electric chair, Machinal is a timeless and fearless examination of how societal constraints led to her desperate act. It remains a painfully evocative and astute study of womanhood in an age that values automation and submission over human uniqueness.
