Undergraduate admissions and enrollment is handled by the Office of Admissions and Scholarship.
Graduate Admission
MFA Design and Acting candidates are accepted through an audition and interview process with the department. Do NOT apply to the Graduate School until you have been invited to by an MSU Department of Theatre Representative. For undergraduates, MSU offers an amazing amount of freedom to allow the student to choose their education. MSU theatre students can strengthen their theatre training while also enhancing their education through other academic interests.
MSU actors are known for their versatility. Classes devoted to classical acting, stage combat, film, vocal training, musical theatre, improv and comedy, auditioning, devised theatre, and much more. The choice is yours.
The undergraduate design program offers students classes in all areas of design including scenery, costumes, sound, lighting, media design, and more. Students are in small classes and work closely with faculty. Undergraduate designers also regularly design mainstage shows.
Graduating actors are given the opportunity to perform at live and digital showcases in several markets. Graduating designers are given the opportunity to present their work at professional conferences. Additional opportunities come through alumni and networking events. Students have access to a wide range of internships at some of the best theatres across the country.
Yes, MSU has a musical theatre minor and sponsors the New Musical Laboratory, dedicated to the development of new musicals connecting students with the next generation of musical theatre developers.
Yes, we allow flexibility.
Yes, the Bachelor of Arts (BA) is a general degree in theatre allowing you to study multiple areas of interest. The BA is open to all MSU students without need for audition or interview.
Yes, our BFA in Stage Management provides students with ample experience. The Arts & Cultural Management minor has an internship component connecting students with professionals.
