The Department of Theatre Celebrates a year of “RE-INVENTION.”

The College of Arts and Letters has challenged departments to create special initiatives that explore the role of the Arts and Humanities in public life. In the face of significant economic and social uncertainties, how can the Arts inform and support citizens as they rethink needs and foster dreams for the future?

The Department of Theatre has chosen a season of plays that bring to light the many and diverse ways human beings have re-invented themselves in extraordinary situations. We invite you to experience their terror and their pain, their relief and their joy, and through that process to re-assess your own life.

Will you re-invent yourself?

Message from Dr. George Peters (former chair)

George Peters

It has been my pleasure to serve as the Department of Theatre chair since January 2006. I have been privileged to work with a group of extraordinary faculty and students who pulled together to RE-INVIGORATE and RE-FINE the academic and production mission of the Department. It has been a period of remarkable growth, with an increase of over 200% in student numbers and an influx of dynamic and talented faculty. I leave the chairmanship with countless memories and many lasting friendships. I am confident that the RE-CONSTITUTED Department of Theatre will remain faithful to its long-time goal "to provoke and sustain truth and insight into the human condition."
