Creative Arts Scholarship

The Creative Arts Scholarship is awarded to students indicating Theatre as a major.              

To participate in this scholarship competition, you must declare Theatre as your major preference on both your application for admission and the scholarship application.  The first-place award is a $2,500 stipend per year and, depending upon departmental approval and scholarship eligibility being maintained, is renewable for a maximum of eight semesters. The second place award is a $1,500 stipend, and the third place award is a $1000 stipend.  The second and third place awards are non-renewable and applied to the freshman year tuition expenses.

Conditions: Scholarship winners are required to enroll at MSU no later than the fall semester of the year in which the award is granted. The award may only be used for undergraduate study at Michigan State University. Student winners are required to enroll for no less than 12 credit hours each semester during the duration of the award and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students must make satisfactory progress in their majors for renewal consideration of any of the Creative Arts Scholarships.
          
Interested students must have applied for admission to MSU, indicate a major preference in Theatre and submit this Creative Arts Scholarship application form by Friday, January 31, 2014. This application should be mailed to the Department of Theatre, c/o Creative Arts Scholarship, 542 Auditorium, #113, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824-0590.

Please call the Department of Theatre main office at 517-355-6691 to sign up for the audition.  All students should be prepared to arrive at 10:00 AM.
             

Creative Arts Scholarship Audition Notice:
Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 10:00AM - 1:00PM

Auditions will be held in the Auditorium Building - Arena Theatre.
The Auditorium Building is on the corner of Farm Lane and Auditorium Road.        

The Creative Arts Scholarship is a competition for high school students interested in theatre (acting or design). Students will present work to the Michigan State University Department of Theatre faculty.                                                
          
Applicants may also audition/interview for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (acting and design) at this audition.
          
Audition Instructions
          
All participants should bring a short resume of your training and a picture of yourself.
          
Those who are applying for a scholarship in acting should also bring a list of roles performed. Each audition/interview will last approximately ten minutes and will be divided as follows:
          
Applicant will present two contrasting prepared selections, (classical/modern, comic/tragic) to total no longer than 4 minutes. Do not attempt to portray more than one character in a selection. Introduce each selection by simply announcing the name of the character and the play.
          
Applicant will be interviewed by an audition panel composed of our acting, dance and production design faculty. 
          
Those who are applying for a scholarship in design/technical production should bring a portfolio, production and process photos, evidence of your creativity, skills and achievement (class projects are welcome).
          
Dance applicants should prepare a 2 to 3 minute dance composition in the style of their choice: i.e. ballet, modern, tap, etc.  Applicants must provide their own recorded musical accompaniment and a device with which to play it.
          
All should be prepared to discuss their previous training and experience as well as future career goals.
