Graduate Studies

Graduate Degree programs in the Department of Theatre are designed to prepare you for a career as a professor or administrator at major colleges and universities throughout the United States or for a career in professional theatre.  Currently, the department offers master of fine arts (MFA) degree programs. The MSU Department of Theatre is affiliated with the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, the American Society for Theatre Research, Theatre Communications Group, the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, the American College Dance Festival Association and the National Dance Education Organization.

The Department of Theatre offers TA positions in:
          
- ActingTHR 101, THR 110, THR 201, THR 204, THR 350 and IAH 241D (Integrative Arts and Humanities)
- Production Design (Scenery, Costuming, Lighting, Sound, Integrated Performance Media Design)THR 111, THR 211, THR 212, THR 214, THR 216 and THR 219
          
          
TA in THR 101, 201 and 204 - Acting and Play Analysis Courses
          
Appointment length: 9 month FS & SS; 50% time.
Qualifications: Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree including twenty-four credits in Theatre Studies (or professional equivalences).
Candidate must be enrolled in good standing in a graduate program in Theatre.
Job Expectations: Assignments include but are not limited to lab supervision, undergraduate mentoring, grading, and independent teaching. Specific qualifications are dependent on the assignment.
          
          
TA in THR 111 - Introduction to Technical Theatre
          
Appointment length: 9 month FS & SS; 50% time.
Qualifications: Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree including twenty-four credits in Theatre Studies (or professional equivalences).
Candidate must be enrolled in good standing in a graduate program in Theatre.
Job Expectations: Assignments include but are not limited to lab supervision, undergraduate mentoring, grading, and independent teaching. Specific qualifications are dependent on the assignment.
          
          
TA in THR 211, THR 212, THR 214, 216 and THR 219 - Introduction to Design Courses
          
Appointment length: 9 month FS & SS; 50% time.

Candidate must be enrolled in good standing in a graduate program in Theatre.

TA in IAH 241D - Theater & Society in the West
          
Appointment length: 9 month FS & SS; 50% time.
Qualifications: Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree including twenty-four credits in Theatre Studies (or professional equivalences).
Candidate must be enrolled in good standing in a graduate program in Theatre.
