Gretel Geist

Professor Emerita of Production Design: Costume, received her BA in Foreign Languages from the University of Michigan and MA in Theatre Design with advanced work in graduate study at Michigan State University. Professor Geist has designed sets and costumes for more than 100 productions and has served as design consultant for the principal theaters in the state, as well as in New York. Her costume designs for Henry V, Richard III, A Midsummer Night.s Dream, and the award-winning Mikado involved innovative techniques and use of materials. Her scene design for Hamlet received a certificate of merit from ACTF Region III in 2001. In 2003 her costume design for Oklahoma! received a Thespie Award. Professor Geists students have all found employment in educational and professional theatre. She is a member of USITT and its Costume Commission, the Costume Society, and the executive committee of ACTF Region III where she has served as Michigan State Chair for the past 4 years. She co-founded the award winning Summer Circle Theatre.
